“Vida Adamczewski is one to watch. Her style is fresh, authentic and provocative, her storytelling vivid. Amphibian and Other Bodies blew me away.”

-Salena Godden

Vida Adamczewski was born in Peckham, South East London. She read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University, graduating in 2019. While studying, Vida was diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue, rendering her frequently bedbound. This horizontal perspective permeates her poetry, prose and journalism.

Vida’s writing has appeared in The Mays, The Byline Times, Ambit Magazine, Document Journal, Vittles, Mslexia and The London Magazine.

In July 2021, a staged reading of Vida’s debut lyric play about reproductive justice AMPHIBIAN was performed at the Playmill New Writers Festival at the King’s Head Theatre in Islington. A second charity staging of AMPHIBIAN took place at the Hannah Barry Gallery in Peckham in 2022, raising over £4500 for The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) and The National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF).

For AMPHIBIAN, Vida was awarded the UEA New Forms Award 2022 by the National Centre for Writing.

Vida’s debut collection of writing Amphibian and Other Bodies brings together the play text of AMPHIBIAN with eleven other slippery stories about mothers, daughters, illness, and ponds. It was published by Toothgrinder Press in November 2023 and is available to order directly from Toothgrinder here.
